Definition of type
2 diabetes
Diabetes is
mainly caused because of variations in blood sugar levels in
human beings. Diabetes is of two types namely: Type 1 diabetes
and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is caused mainly due to
body’s failure to produce insulin where as the type 2 diabetes
is caused because of failure of cells in the body to use the
insulin properly and can be caused even because of absolute
insulin deficiency. Usually type 2 diabetes may not have
noticeable symptoms and it develops gradually. Type 2 diabetes
is most commonly seen in overweight people and older
people.

Definition
of type 2 diabetes
Type 2
diabetes is also referred to as adult diabetes or non insulin
dependent diabetes mellitus. It occurs usually when
insulin produced in the body is not used effectively. It is the
most common type of diabetes seen in people and approximately
80 percent people are of overweight. People who are
affected with type 2 diabetes may experience an increase in
frequency of urination and may have abnormal thirst. They may
even feel tired, might irritated, delay in wound
healing.
Some of the
causes of Type 2 diabetes:
- Increased age
- Due to
hereditary i.e., due to some genes which pass from
generation to generation can inherit
diabetes.
- Low
fiber and protein intake, improper nutrition, over intake
of refined products are some of the reasons for developing
diabetes.
- Overweight is also one of the factors for
Type 2 diabetes.
Type 2
diabetes can be diagnosed with some of the blood tests like-
Random blood glucose level, Fasting blood glucose level and
Oral glucose tolerance test. Type 2 diabetes cannot be
cured completely but can be controlled to certain extent. If
ones blood glucose level is under control they can lead a
healthy life. Self testing techniques can be implemented to
monitor the blood glucose levels by checking the glucose
content of a small drop of blood. Glucometer is a device used
to provide an exact reading of blood glucose. Following
proper diet can control Type 2 diabetes to certain extent i.e.,
having right amount of healthy food at right time. Weight
control is an important factor to control Type 2 diabetes.
Regular exercise helps in burn of excess calories and fat to
attain optimal weight. It also helps in control of glucose
levels in the blood.
When normal
blood glucose levels are not attained with diet and exercise
one can take the help of doctor for proper medication. Some of
the oral medicines include Oral sulfonylurea, Metaformin,
Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors like acarbose, etc. Insulin can
also be injected into one’s body if they continue to have
improper blood glucose levels in spite of lifestyle changes and
using oral medicines. More than one type may be mixed together
in an injection to achieve best control of blood sugar levels
and can be injected as prescribed by doctor depending on
person’s condition. For maintaining a healthy diet and proper
body weight help to prevent type 2 diabetes, one needs to have
their blood glucose levels checked at lease every three
years.
